Azimut Yachts: Success Story at Sea
The story of Azimut Yachts began when young university student Paolo Vitelli founded Azimut Srl in 1969 and has led the maritime world ever since.
The first steps towards success were taken in 1970 when it took over the distribution of prestigious motor yacht brands in Italy. Azimut quickly expanded its operations and began designing its own yachts as well as distribution. It attracted attention with successful projects such as AZ 43′ Bali, a joint venture with Amerglass.
With the introduction of the AZ 32′ Targa in 1977, Azimut expanded its product range by focusing on the lower end of the market. In 1982, he introduced Azimut 105′ Failaka, the largest mass-produced yacht made of fiberglass.
In 1985, Azimut acquired Benetti and started its own production. This move revolutionized the industry with innovations such as large frameless windows, power seats and walnut interiors.
New shipyard acquisitions and facility restructurings towards the end of the nineties made Azimut a leading manufacturer of yachts and mega yachts. This leadership position was maintained and strengthened by new investments such as facilities in Brazil.
